Oral examinations

Routine oral examinations, ideally twice a year, allow your dentist to diagnose any oral health problems and draw up a treatment plan.

During your examination, your dentist will inspect the health of your teeth, gums and jaw. Examinations may also include X-rays and screening for oral cancer.

Dental cleaning

Before or after your oral examination, your dentist will perform a thorough cleaning of your teeth and gums to prevent and treat tartar and plaque build-up.

Using an ultrasound device, your dentist will remove tartar and plaque, and then polish the tooth surfaces with a small rotating brush. Finally, your dentist will floss your teeth.

Fluoride treatment

If you are at high risk of tooth decay, your dentist may recommend a fluoride treatment. Fluoride is a natural mineral that can help rebuild the minerals in your tooth enamel, preventing or stopping the progression of tooth decay.
