Hollywood Smile, What is it?

Hollywood Smile or Veneer is a thin shell that fits over the front of the teeth to improve their appearance. The veneer changes the length, size, colour, shape and function of the teeth.
The Hollywood Smile also makes it possible to fill in the spaces between teeth by personalising them. It can even correct slight misalignments. And it's done mainly for aesthetic reasons.

Types of Dental Veneers

Hollywood Smile - Veneers

Porcelain

This is the traditional form of veneer, requiring 0.5 mm preparation of the teeth beforehand. This form solves most aesthetic problems.

Lumineers

Also known as "no preparation" veneers, they generally require no preparation and are very thin.
Their indication is limited.

Composite

Composite veneers can be applied using either the direct or indirect method. The main difference between the two is the application process, not the actual material used. A composite veneer is made from a composite resin material applied to your teeth. Its main disadvantage is that it is less resistant and discolours quickly. It also has limited indications.

The procedure

Hollywood Smile - Veneers
First visit

Treatment takes just a few weeks. At your first appointment with our dental surgeon, a clinical examination will be carried out to understand what you don't like about your smile and what you would like to improve. Our dentist will then take photos and impressions of your teeth, in order to preview the result. This is done using mock-ups.

Second visit

During the second appointment, once the mock-up has been designed. Our dental surgeon will fill it with resin and place it in the mouth. The resin will then cover the teeth and harden to form a kind of mask. These transitional veneers will give you an idea of the final result. And to see if you are happy with the way they look. Once these transitional veneers have been validated, your practitioner will be able to prepare the teeth that will receive a prosthesis. It is at this stage that the enamel is partially removed. From this point on, veneers must be worn for life. Once the veneers have been cut, our dental surgeon will make new impressions and temporary veneers to protect your teeth. They will remain in place until your permanent veneers (Hollywood Smile) are made.

Third visit

The last session is entirely devoted to fitting. This is the longest stage, lasting between 4 and 6 hours. The practitioner's work is meticulous: he must integrate the veneers naturally with the rest of the teeth, and ensure that they are well accepted by the gums in the days following the break.

Before Getting Veneers

  • Your teeth and gums need to be healthy
  • Veneers are not always a good choice for patients who clench or grind their teeth.
  • Regular visits to the dentist are essential to keep your teeth and gums healthy.

After Getting Veneers

  • It may take a few days to get used to the feel of your veneers, but let your dentist know if your bite doesn't feel right after the veneers have been fitted.
  • You need to be careful, as the veneers can chip or break under pressure. So avoid biting your nails and chewing on hard objects.

In conclusion, porcelain veneers offer excellent aesthetic results and predictable treatment longevity, while composite veneers can be considered a good conservative option, but with less durability.
